Can the system delete emails after it has processed them?

Hi there! We've been running the HelpDesk system on Sharepoint 2019, and noticed that the delay for processing emails becomes longer when the inbox gets a couple thousand emails collected in it. Is there a way to have the system delete emails it has processed so the inbox doesn't accumulate thousands of emails in it? Right now I've been handling it by deleting processed emails by hand, but I'd like if the system did this for itself.
