Create new custom list with columns

Greetings,

I am creating a new custom list. (Fairly easy with the ‘create list or library’ function) What I am not sure how to do is create the custom list with the columns I need in the list. Is there a way to do that or a different function I can use to create the columns?

I was able to create a list template and use that template when I created a new list. I can make that work. I could see a use of being able to create columns although I can also see the complexity of creating such an action as there are a lot of options when creating columns.
