I have several people in our microsoft entra that will report to a currently vacant position. i understand vacancies will be in another shapoint list but how to i make it to appear that these existing employees reports to the still vacant position?

Since you're using Entra ID as your data source, this scenario is a bit more complex because you can't simply create a placeholder user in the directory.
One alternative would be to export your employee data, and import it as an Excel or into a SharePoint list to use one of those options as the data source instead. This would give you full control over the data structure, allowing you to adjust the hierarchy and add placeholder records as needed.
I understand this approach means giving up the automatic synchronization with Entra ID. Alternatively, if there is already an employee who will eventually fill the position, you could include that person in the hierarchy and use custom code to either hide their card or style it as a vacant position until the role is officially filled. As a side note, we're currently working a major improvement to our vacancy feature that will support such scenarios directly through the wizard. Although I can't share an exact release date yet, it's already on our short-term roadmap.
