Setting Group owner in "Create SharePoint Group"

When creating new access groups, I would like to set Group owner to an existing SharePoint group.
This is no problem using the SharePoint GUI, but the “Create SharePoint Group” action returns errormessage:

Exception: Unable to cast object of type ‘Microsoft.SharePoint.SPGroup’ to type ‘Microsoft.SharePoint.SPUser’.

Is this a problem that can be “worked around” or fixed, or is this by design?
