What fields are required for the vacancies list. I have two columns currently. A text field for the position and a lookup for the manager ID. I have those set, have the vacancies check box checked in general and pointing at the list, yet nothing changes after a refresh.

Those two columns should be enough for your Org Chart to render vacancies. If you’ve set Org Chart to point to this list correctly then it should work.
Please open your console browser, reproduce the issue and send us a screenshot of what you get.
