Using trigger to add a comment

Is there a way to add a comment to a ticket by using a trigger?

We are using triggers to categorize certain tickets. These triggers update fields and may possibly overwrite fields entered by the agent. We would like to add a private comment to the ticket that would identify that the ticket has been updated automatically.

It is currently not possible to add private notes to a ticket using triggers. However, you can record trigger runs to ticket history:
